Air Filtration for Industrial & Manufacturing Processes
Different industrial processes create different air filtration requirements. Machining can generate oil mist, heated processes can produce smoke and fine particles, and some production activities release odorous gases that require a separate treatment stage.
Effective filtration starts with understanding what is in the airstream. The type of contaminant, its concentration, the operating temperature and the volume of air being extracted all influence equipment selection.
We provide filtration solutions tailored to these conditions, from individual units to combinations of filtration stages. Depending on the application, these may include electrostatic precipitators, mechanical filters, activated carbon and modular filter housings.
Industrial Air Filtration Options
Electrostatic Precipitators for Oil Mist & Smoke
Electrostatic precipitators, or ESPs, use an electrical charge to collect airborne particles. They can be suitable for oil mist, smoke and fine particulate removal in selected industrial extract applications.
Our range includes inline ESP units for integration into ducted systems and the RB700, a self-contained electrostatic air cleaner with an integrated blower. Selection depends on the airflow, contaminant characteristics and operating conditions.
Washable collection cells provide a reusable filtration stage, with regular cleaning required to maintain performance.

Mechanical Filtration for Airborne Particles
Mechanical filters capture particles as air passes through the filter media. Panel, bag and other filter types can be used for pre-filtration or finer particulate removal, depending on the application.
Selecting the appropriate filter grade and surface area helps balance particle removal, pressure drop and service life. Where several stages are needed, pre-filtration can help protect downstream equipment from larger particles and excessive loading.
Activated Carbon for Odour & Gaseous Contaminants
Activated carbon can be used to adsorb suitable odorous gases and volatile organic compounds from an industrial extract airstream.
Carbon selection depends on the compounds being treated, their concentration and the process conditions. Airflow, contact time and upstream particulate removal also affect performance and replacement intervals.
Where an airstream contains both particles and gaseous contaminants, separate filtration stages may be required to address each.
Modular Filter Units
Modular filter units allow several filtration stages to be housed within a configurable enclosure. They can accommodate combinations of panel, bag, HEPA and carbon filters where appropriate to the application.
This provides flexibility when specifying a system around available space, access requirements and the treatment needed.

Choosing the Right Industrial Air Filtration System
A system should be selected around the process it serves. Before recommending equipment, we consider:
Contaminant type: Oil mist, smoke, dust, fine particles or gaseous compounds.
Airflow requirements: The volume of air passing through the filtration equipment.
Process conditions: Temperature, moisture and variations in contaminant loading.
Operating hours: Intermittent use, extended shifts or continuous production.
Available space: Equipment dimensions, duct connections and maintenance access.
Required performance: The treatment objective and any project-specific discharge requirements.
Maintenance: Cleaning access, consumable replacement and planned servicing.
These details help identify a suitable filtration arrangement and how it will integrate with the wider extract system.
Filtration for New & Existing Extract Systems
We work with mechanical contractors, consultants and industrial operators on new projects and upgrades to existing installations.
For new systems, we can support filtration specification and equipment selection. For existing systems, we can help assess suitable replacement units or additional treatment stages, taking account of the current airflow, available space and condition of the installation.
Our support includes supply-only equipment, technical guidance and installation assistance for the selected filtration solution.
Maintenance & Long-Term Performance
Industrial air filtration equipment needs regular attention to remain effective. Collection cells become loaded, mechanical filters develop resistance, and activated carbon eventually requires replacement.
Maintenance requirements depend on the process, contaminant load and operating hours. A suitable servicing programme helps maintain airflow, filtration performance and equipment reliability.
Extechnology provides maintenance support to help customers keep their filtration equipment working effectively over time.

Emergency ESP Replacement Following Restaurant Fire
Emergency ESP Replacement Following Restaurant Fire Project Overview Extechnology was appointed to supply a rapid replacement ESP solution following a fire at a commercial restaurant kitchen. The fire had damaged the existing extraction and filtration equipment, leaving the restaurant unable to operate until the system was replaced. With business downtime directly affecting revenue and day-to-day operations, the project required a fast and straightforward solution that would allow the restaurant to reopen as quickly as possible. As the existing extract system had already been designed around a specific airflow requirement, the replacement ESP equipment needed to provide a like-for-like solution that could integrate easily into the existing setup without unnecessary redesign work or site modifications. The Challenge The restaurant required an urgent replacement of the damaged ESP equipment within a very short timeframe in order to minimise disruption to the business. Key challenges included: Rapid specification and supply of replacement ESP equipment Minimising operational downtime and financial losses Matching the existing airflow and system performance requirements Avoiding unnecessary ductwork or system alterations Supporting a fast-track installation and recommissioning programme With pressure to reopen quickly, maintaining speed throughout specification, processing and delivery was critical to the success of the project. The Solution Extechnology worked closely with the client and installation team to quickly identify a suitable like-for-like ESP replacement based on the existing system airflow and operational requirements. Using the original system information, the replacement ESP unit was selected to maintain the required airflow performance while integrating directly into the existing extraction arrangement. This simplified both specification and installation, avoiding delays associated with redesign or major system modifications. The focus throughout the project was to keep the process straightforward and efficient. Once the system requirements were confirmed, the replacement ESP equipment was rapidly processed and delivered within a short lead time to support the installation programme and help return the kitchen to operation as quickly as possible. Technology Used Like-for-like commercial kitchen Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP) Existing extraction system airflow configuration retained Washable ESP filtration technology for grease and smoke removal Compatible integration with existing ductwork and extraction layout Project Outcomes Rapid turnaround from enquiry to delivery Minimal downtime for the restaurant Fast-track installation and recommissioning Reduced disruption and business losses Successful reopening within a short timeframe Happy client and fully operational kitchen Consultant Notes The replacement ESP equipment was selected to match the airflow and operational characteristics of the original system, allowing the installation to proceed without significant modifications to the existing extract arrangement. By maintaining a like-for-like approach, the project avoided unnecessary complexity and enabled a faster overall delivery and installation programme, helping minimise disruption to the client’s business operations.
